Isle of Man Fire Service open days draw crowds

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has invited local people into their stations to take part in two open days.

A spokesman said large crowds attended the events at Ramsey and Douglas fire stations over the weekend.

Visitors had the chance to play water games with service hose reels and meet a member of the Manx Purple Helmets' motorcycle display team.

Fire crews explained the functions of their appliances and equipment and £1,800 was raised for local charities.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Kevin Groom said: "I would like to thank the community for supporting both open days and thank local businesses and organisations that contributed to both events.

"The personnel from the service, who volunteered their time made both days a success."
