A body "dredged up" by a fishing boat several miles from the north coast of the Isle of Man was that of a man, police have confirmed.

The man's body was discovered by fishermen on Friday evening.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on the badly decomposed body on Tuesday but the identity is not yet known.

Coroner's Officer Mark Moyer said: "The tests showed the body is male and DNA checks are being made."

The Isle of Man force is liaising with police in the UK and Ireland.

Insp Derek Flint said: "We've got enquiries going on both locally and with neighbouring Irish Sea forces with regards to our missing persons lists.

"There is nothing the conclusively brings us to believe the individual is from the island."
