The process to recruit the Isle of Man's 30th Lieutenant Governor is under way, the Manx government has announced.

The successful candidate will succeed the Queen's current representative and former UK diplomat, Adam Wood, who retires in April after five years.

In recent times the role has been filled by a retired diplomat or senior military officer and no Manx-born person has ever been appointed.

The appointee will live in Government House and be paid nearly £100k a year.

A government spokesman said candidates must have a "distinguished record of crown, public or other relevant service at the highest level".

The deadline for applications is 15 September 2015.
