Storm Caroline disrupts Isle of Man ferry sailings

Ferry services to and from the Isle of Man have been cancelled because of Storm Caroline.

The Steam Packet company said the Douglas-to-Heysham crossing at 08:45 GMT had been cancelled while the return service at 14:15 will also not operate.

The Manx Met Office issued an amber weather warning, external as 60mph (97km/h) winds and heavy rain hit the island.

"Plummeting temperatures" forecast for the island could also mean "icy roads and wintry showers", said a spokesman.

He added: "Scattered wintry showers are likely to arrive later on Thursday, turning heavy at times, with hail or snow over high ground initially but these lowering to sea-level overnight."

Isle of Man police have appealed for motorists to take extra care on icy roads.

The Steam Packet Company said passengers booked on sailings on Thursday and Friday should check with the company's call centre, external before travelling.
