The closure of a major route into the Isle of Man's capital for roadworks that has seen it shut off for nearly two months has been further extended.

The A5 New Castletown Road between the Fort North roundabout and Richmond Hill in Braddan can now stay closed until up 19 November.

A Department of Infrastructure spokesman said bad weather delayed work to finish the newly resurfaced road.

Diversions will remain in place to guide motorists around the area.

The project, which was originally due to last seven weeks, has seen the road shut since 11 September and has already been extended by a week due to weather disruption.

It was hoped the latest extension would allow the department to "get the last few days worth of work done", the spokesman said.

A "window of dry weather" was needed for paving of the route and for road markings to do be, he added.

"We share everyone's frustration that resurfacing is not yet complete, but unfortunately the weather dictates progress," the spokesman added.
