Gritters are set to cover routes across the island

People have been warned to expect disruption on the Isle of Man's roads due to forecast snow and ice.

An amber weather warning for up to 2in (5cm) of snow on higher ground overnight has been issued by Ronaldsway Met Office.

Forecasters said wintry showers through the evening and overnight could be expected "mainly in central and southern areas".

Ice was expected to be an "additional hazard" on untreated surfaces.

The latest warning was put in place until 15:00 GMT on Thursday.

'Snow covered'

As well as accumulations of snow on higher ground, up to 1in (3cm) on lower levels could be seen overnight.

Sub-zero temperatures are set to continue for areas above around 1000 ft (304m), falling to -3°C (26F) in some areas.

Lower level sheltered areas could also be affected, "especially in places that are wet or become snow covered", forecasters said.

The Department of Infrastructure said gritters would cover routes in central areas, including Saddle Road and Strang Road, which is the diversion route for resurfacing works at Braddan Bridge.

Routes in the north, such as the Beinn Y Phott Road and Tholt Y Will Road, and southern routes including the Sloc and Shoulder Road have also been earmarked for treatment, the department said.
