More than 2,400 shoe boxes packed with presents were delivered to Romania over Christmas, a Jersey charity said.

The Mustard Seed organisation gave the gifts, donated by islanders, to children and pensioners in the town of Cefa.

It also delivered more than 400 food parcels and 12 tonnes of clothing, bedding and household items.

The charity works with small organisations to ease suffering in eastern Europe.

It aims to help poor communities become self sufficient by providing humanitarian aid.
