New men's shelter in Jersey 'will support community'

A planned refuge for men in Jersey who have nowhere else to go to will provide much-needed support in the community, a local charity says.

The Christian charity Caring Hands is hoping to turn a guest house in St Aubin's high street into a refuge for men going through a crisis.

The St Aubin Residents' Association has criticised the proposed location.

Caring Hands said the shelter would help would to prevent men from getting into worse situations.

He said: "What we can do - in an Christian environment - is feed them, look after them, offer counsel, and help them get into work. They're not criminals."

The residents' association said such a refuge was better placed in St Helier.
