The States of Jersey agree to environmental action plan

States departments are aiming towards a 10% reduction in energy and water consumption

All departments of the States of Jersey are working to become more environmentally friendly.

The programme is called Eco-Active and more than 90 local companies have already signed up to it.

All States departments will work towards a 10% reduction in energy and water consumption and a 15% reduction in staff travel.

The States of Jersey will also work to reduce waste, recycle and buy more sustainable goods and services.

Senator Freddie Cohen, minister for planning and environment, said: "This new initiative will ensure that the States plays its part in ensuring that we minimise our carbon footprint and set an example of public sector environmental sustainability."

John Richardson, deputy chief executive, said: "Eco-Active focuses on behaviour change, managing demand on resources and improving purchasing decisions in a three-pronged approach to achieve significant corporate savings, while delivering high quality services to the public.

"Full support for this initiative is being provided from all departments, the utility companies and our supply chain."
