National Trust for Jersey president in membership drive

A charity worker who has been elected president of the National Trust for Jersey is hoping its membership will increase while she is at the helm.

Celia Jeune, who has been a member since the early 1970s, is taking over from Mike Stentiford.

The National Trust owns properties and land all over the island including headlands and historic buildings.

It has recently become involved in campaigns to protect the coastline and the countryside.

Mr Stentiford championed the campaigns during his three-year term.

Ms Jeune, who has been involved in the Soroptomists and the Lloyds TSB Foundation, said she would continue that work to safeguard and maintain the qualities that define the character of the island.

She also wants to boost membership to help pay for the repair and renovation of a number of historic properties given to the trust to look after.
