Channel Island £1m lottery sales are 'disappointing'

Organisers of the Channel Islands summer £1m lottery said ticket sales have been disappointing.

With less than a week until the draw, they said they wanted more to be sold.

Jersey's Economic Development department said it would review whether or not they would hold the summer lottery again after the winning numbers are revealed.

Mr Battle, Matthew Wolfenden, will draw the winning tickets at the Battle of Flowers on Thursday 9 August.

Money raised from the lottery ticket sales in Jersey will go to charitable causes, but profits from sales in Guernsey will go to the States of Guernsey.

A spokesman said: "The more people who buy tickets for the Summer Lottery, the higher the first prize will be."

The new summer lottery will only have a top prize of £1m if all tickets are sold, and there are also £300,000 in smaller prizes.

If all of the tickets are sold, up to £450,000 should be raised for good causes, with the remaining £250,000-£350,000 going on costs and agents' fees.

A spokesman said last year's Christmas lottery raised £420,000 of profit which was given to the Association of Jersey Charities.
