Faces of War project planned to mark Jersey's war dead

People from Jersey who died in World War I could have images of their faces projected onto buildings in the island.

The Faces of War project will mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the 1914-18 war.

Jersey Heritage, which is asking islanders for photographs of family members who fought, said a lot of material has already been collected.

Organiser Julia Coutanche said the images would bring to life the people whose names are on local war memorials.

"Immediately after the end of the war, the States created a role of service, which is essentially a list of all the names of all the people who were in the services," she told BBC News.

"What we're doing is illustrating that list. We're used to seeing names - and they obviously do mean a lot - however putting a face to those names will really bring it home to people."
