Bahamas bans shark fishing and selling shark products

Sharks may seem like scary predators, but the Bahamas has decided to protect them, banning shark fishing in its waters.
It means all their waters, and the Bahamas owns 630,000 sq km, have been turned into a shark sanctuary.
The new law also bans selling, importing and exporting shark products.
Other countries that have outlawed shark fishing are Honduras, the Maldives and Palau.
The reason sharks are seen as at risk is because their fins are a delicacy in Chinese food.
Environmentalists say 73 million sharks are killed every year.
The fines for shark fishing in the Bahamas have gone from £1,900 to £3,100.
