People have been reading Superman comics for 86 years - and some of those original copies might be worth quite a bit...

Have you got any comic books at home that you've enjoyed reading but are thinking of throwing away?

Well, this story might make you think again, as three brothers in America found an original copy of a famous comic that's broken records.

The original 1939 copy of the very first Superman story has sold at auction for a huge $9.12 million - around £6.9 million.

The sale has made it the most expensive comic book ever sold.

It's 86 years old, so maybe you and your comics may need to wait a while before they become valuable!

The Californian brothers found the comic in a cardboard box in their mum's house, who was 9 when she first bought the copy.

The comic book was sold by Heritage Auctions, and the copy was graded a 9 as it was in pristine condition.

It had been stored between a stack of old newspapers, keeping it clean and tidy.

The last time a first edition of Superman had been sold, it had fetched $6 million, a sum which was beaten by over $3 million by this new sale.

Heritage Auctions Vice President Lon Allen said: "Superman No. 1 is a milestone in pop culture history, and this copy is not only in unprecedented condition, but it has a movie-worthy story behind it."
