One Direction open Radio 1's Big Weekend in Glasgow

One Direction have opened this year's Big Weekend, which is taking place in Glasgow.

They boy band opened the main stage...

with their single Kiss You from their second studio album Take Me Home.

They also performed hits Best Song Ever and What Makes You Beautiful.

Fifty thousand fans are expected over the weekend. To celebrate colours were projected on the front of Glasgow City Chambers in Scotland.

On Friday 14,000 people attended a dance event in George Square.

Pharrell Williams' set mid-afternoon on Saturday pulled in one of the biggest crowds.

It included tracks such as Get Lucky, Blurred Lines and ended with Happy.

Lily Allen had several wardrobe changes and had magic clouds floating above the crowd during her Main Stage set that included recent singles Hard Out Here, Somewhere Only We Know and Air Balloon.

She was introduced onto the stage by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw.

Ed Sheeran also drew a large crowd and Coldplay's Chris Martin was spotted watching him from the side of the stage.

Double Grammy award winner Lorde played the In New Music We Trust stage and lucky festival goers might have spotted her in the crowd. She told the BBC she was hanging around to catch some of the other acts.

Calvin Harris warmed up the crowd on Saturday evening, smashing through his hits.

He certainly looked like he was enjoying himself...

and so did the crowd!

And, Coldplay closed Saturday night with fireworks, lasers and bagpipes.

They played tracks from all five of their albums and included a short burst of One Direction's Best Song Ever. Chris Martin thanked the crowd for being 'amazing' and said he wished they could play there every day.
