What is life like in a Brazilian favela?

Raphael is 13-years-old and has lived in Doña Marta favela in Rio de Janeiro his whole life.

Favelas are poorer areas of housing in Brazil built on the edge of big cities.

They're hard to get into and out of, because they are built on the steep hills and have busy alleyways.

Raphael talks about what it's like to live in a favela and how the area's changed in recent years, saying his favela is now a safer place to live.

Leah's full report will be on Tuesday's Newsround, presented live from Brazil at 4.20pm on CBBC.
