Six Nations 2016: England 15-9 Scotland
- Published
Scotland started this year's Six Nations rugby tournament with a defeat to England at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Four months on from a bad World Cup campaign on home soil, England got an early lead through George Kruis' converted try, but were then pegged back by the boot of Greig Laidlaw to make it 7-6 at half-time.
In the second-half, England's Jack Nowell finished off a well-worked try and Owen Farrell kicked his second penalty to close the game out.
It meant England also lifted the Calcutta Cup, the trophy given to the winner of the yearly Six Nations match between Scotland and England.
What the coaches said
Scotland head coach Vern Cotter: "The players are very disappointed. That game was there to be won and that's the hard, cold fact."
England head coach Eddie Jones: "I always thought we were going to win the game unless we did something silly."
