The Met Office - the UK's national weather service - said it was "bitterly cold" over the weekend due to strong winds and temperatures in parts of the UK would continue to remain around freezing.

There were also snowy conditions on the roads near Bradfield Dale in South Yorkshire. There is an amber warning for snow in the East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber until 2pm today.

BBC Weather forecaster Billy Payne said the cold weather - brought by Storm Darcy - would last until at least the middle of the week. Suffolk - including Saxmundham - is also among the places that are under an amber warning.

Eyam in Derbyshire also saw snow fall overnight into Sunday. Public Health England has issued a cold weather alert for the whole nation through to Wednesday. It said it was "crucial" people looked out for those who may be vulnerable during the current cold snap
