Do you run a mile at school very day?

More than five million children are now taking part in a scheme set up by a Scottish headteacher - are you one of them?

The Daily Mile does what it says on the tin - every day, school kids are encouraged to run, walk or wheel for a mile (or for fifteen minutes).

And they're even celebrating having gone global - it has grown from 30 children in one Scottish school in 2012, to more than five million children across 20,000 schools in 96 countries today.

The Daily Mile Foundation claims that the scheme does lots for kids' fitness, and concentration in lessons.

It's called the Daily Mile as on average kids are expected to run about that within the allotted 15 minutes, but it doesn't matter if it's a little bit less.

The person who founded it is Elaine Wyllie, when she was the boss of St Ninian's Primary School in Stirling.

What do kids think about running a mile every day?

She's over the moon the idea has been picked up by so many other schools: "I am immensely proud of the achievements of schools, teachers and children over the past 12 years.

"We want more schools, teachers, parents, and children to establish daily physical activity as a core part of their school day, ensuring our children become healthier, happier, and better learners."

"By doing The Daily Mile every day, we've noticed the children show greater motor development, concentration, and attention in class.

"The children are usually the ones who remind the teachers that it's time for The Daily Mile.Other countries now taking part in the Daily Mile include Ireland, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa.
