Were you allowed to stay up and witness the Northern Lights on Friday night?

The lights, sometimes known as the aurora borealis, was visible right across the across even the most southern parts of the UK.

They are caused by the interaction of the solar wind - a stream of charged particles escaping the Sun - and our planet's magnetic field and atmosphere.
