Manchester United travelled to Bergen, Norway's second-largest city, earlier this week to play their Women's Champions League qualifier against SK Brann.

However, when they got to the country they realised that some of their players' boots had ended up getting lost.

The missing boots weren't noticed until the day of the game as United had trained at their home ground, Carrington, before departure.

Officials at the club quickly had to go looking for a shop in Norway to find replacements.

They finally managed to find a sports shop less than three hours before kick-off and bought 15 pairs of boots and 20 sets of shin guards.

Shop owner Andre Gullord told BBC Sport: "We are a big store but they were very lucky we had enough boots in stock that were the right size.

"We have had the odd player come in because they have left their boots behind but never the entire team."

He joked: "Maybe we should have told them we only had boots with no studs to help the local team!"

United midfielder Lisa Naalsund, from Bergen, told Norwegian TV that she had even asked her mum to bring some boots to the stadium!

"There were a few shoes that disappeared," she said. "We haven't quite figured out where they are yet. It was right before we went to the stadium so there was a bit of chaos."

United ended up losing the first leg game 1-0 to SK Brann as they look to qualify for the main draw for the first time in their history.

A spokesperson for United confirmed the story: "A bag containing some of our players' boots went missing during the journey to Bergen. We are investigating how this happened.

"In the meantime, we secured new boots of the right make and sizes for all the affected players."
