For fans of the holiday classic Home Alone, the McCallister family home might feel as festive as turkeys and trees.

But now someone owns that piece of movie history, having bought the iconic house for huge $5.5 million.

Located in Winnetka, Illinois, just outside of Chicago in the US, the house was the central location for the first Home Alone film.

It played a big part in Kevin McCallister's (played by Macaulay Culkin) unforgettable antics, after being left behind by his family at Christmas.

But if you could own, or live in, a famous location from the movies where would you choose and why?

Rank the locations in the list and let us know in the comments about any other options you can think of.

The house has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and a home cinema. However, only a handful of scenes in the movie were filmed inside the mansion, including the property's main staircase, which is unrecognisable today after being redecorated.

The majority of the movie's action was actually shot on a set constructed in a high school gym.

The new owners of the house haven't been revealed but they should expect traffic jams around Christmas time, as tourists and fans of the movie line up to take photos outside.

Hopefully the house doesn't come with Kevin's boobytraps included!
