Will Cynthia or Ariana pick up thier first acting awards?

Wicked has earned five Screen Actors Guild Award nominations including Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande receiving a nod in the Best supporting actress category.

These awards are often thought to be a good indication as to who might pick up Academy Award nominations.

Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero in the musical film has also been recognised in the Best supporting actor category.

The Wicked cast will also compete for the Best ensemble award, which recognises the achievements of all the main actors in a movie.

We won't find out who has won until the awards ceremony on Sunday 23, February.

The film's all-star cast were awarded the cinematic and box office achievement award at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards in Hollywood.

Cynthia and Ariana missed out on the acting awards but the director said the film was made as a "radical act of optimism".

The long-running and mega-successful stage show, Wicked is based on a novel by author Gregory Maguire and tells the backstory of Elphaba, a powerful witch, born with green skin, who goes on to become the Wicked Witch of West in the Wizard of Oz.

She meets a popular student Galinda who eventually becomes Glinda the Good Witch of the North.

The story touches on themes of friendship, good versus evil, power and discrimination.

The Oscar nominations will be announced next week.
