The picture of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina, by photographer Jerome Brouillet, has now been named overall winner at the 2025 World Sports Photography Awards.

The stunning pic, taken from a boat during the men's surfing competition in Teahupo'o, French Polynesia, shows the surfer celebrating riding a huge wave, as if he is stood on thin air.

Photographers from 96 countries sent in entries this year, with 13000 images competing for gold, silver and bronze awards.

The competition is judged by leading figures from sport, media, photography and branding.
