Chelsea and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been voted BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2025.

It has been a big year for the 25-year-old who helped England win Euro 2025.

She also helped Chelsea take home the Women's Super League, Women's FA Cup and Women's League Cup during the 2024/25 season.

England team-mate Alessia Russo finished second, and Spain's Aitana Bonmati was third in the public vote.

The nominated players were chosen by a panel of experts, including coaches, players, administrators and journalists, based on how they performed between September 2024 and August 2025.

Hampton is only the second goalkeeper to win the award, with fellow England star Mary Earps taking the title in 2023.

"I definitely didn't expect it with all the other players nominated," Hampton told BBC Sport.

"I think they've all had unbelievable years."

Hannah became England's first-choice goalkeeper in this year's tournament.

After England came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Sweden in the quarter-finals, she saved two spot-kicks to give a 3-2 shootout victory.

She most memorably saved two of Spain's penalties in the final, giving the Lionesses another Euros win.

During the tournament Hampton registered the highest save percentage of any goalkeeper (70.8 per cent).

At club level, Hampton was a key part of the Chelsea side under new manager Sonia Bompastor during her first campaign in charge of the Blues.

As well as helping her team secure the Women's Super League title, Women's League Cup, and Women's FA Cup trophies, she also played a part in them reaching the semi-finals of the Women's Champions League.

Hannah was named the world's best female goalkeeper at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony in September.

She took home the Yashin Trophy, presented each year by France Football to the best-performing goalkeeper.

After her win, former coach Andrew Frost, said her abilities were "jaw-dropping" from the moment she began playing in the position.

Hampton has spoken about how she overcame the pressure and expectation to help England defend their European crown in Switzerland.

"I knew that if England got knocked out earlier, there would have been a lot more spotlight on me," she said.

"I just thought, you know what, just go and enjoy your football. I've always said I perform better when I enjoy it."
