A Minecraft Movie: Brand new trailer revealed - what do we know so far?

The game's universe is getting a Hollywood makeover

Stop building and listen up - production company Warner Bros. has just dropped a new trailer for its upcoming film, A Minecraft Movie.

The film is set to be released this April, and follows a group of human misfits who find themselves in a strange CGI universe after being pulled through a mysterious portal.

In the new trailer, we've had our first glimpse at the film's Villagers - people that look like characters from the game.

They're animated instead of played by humans like lots of the other characters we've been introduced to in previous trailers, and keep the blocky, pixelated style of the game.

What's the Minecraft movie about?

The gang in the Overworld

A gang of humans end up in a place called the Overworld, a crazy colourful cube-filled land driven by imagination.

They have to come together, alongside expert crafter Steve, to master their wacky new world and get back home,

The film is being made by film producers Warner Bros. with Minecraft game creators Mojang.

As of writing, a release date has been set for April 4 2025 in the UK.

Who is in the Minecraft movie?

Jack Black who is also in Kung Fu Panda is playing Steve

From previous trailers, we already have a good idea of who the cast of characters will be.

The movie features some big Hollywood stars including actor-musician Jack Black who plays Steve - one of the original characters you could play as in the game Minecraft when it was released in 2009.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa will play Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison.

Emma Myers and Danielle Brookes play Natalie and Dawn, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen plays the character Henry.

Together they make up the gang of humans who have entered the Minecraft universe.
