Minecraft, Pokemon Go and Donkey Kong among winners at Golden Joystick Awards

Some of the biggest names in the world of gaming gathered in London on Thursday for the Golden Joystick Awards.

The show is now in its 43rd year and celebrates all things gaming from the last 12 months.

What makes these awards particularly special, is that they come down to a public vote, although this time there are a few extras which have been picked by an expert panel.

Read on to find out about some of this year's winners - we are pretty confident a couple of them will have kept your thumbs busy!

A Minecraft Movie proved to be a hit with fans!

First up we have Minecraft, I'm sure we won't need to tell most of you, but this is the blockbusting adventure game that was turned into - well a Hollywood blockbuster this year.

The game celebrated its 15th anniversary last year and is one of the best-selling and most played video games in the world.

It picked up the Still Playing Award for console and PC games, beating tough competition, including Fortnite.

It's already grabbed this award three times before and with around 160 million players using it each month - the creators certainly know how to keep players having fun.

Meanwhile Pokemon Go won the Still Playing Award, but for the mobile category, a category which featured Roblox.

The game launched in 2016 and became a massive hit around the world, with help from GPS tracking the game uses augmented reality to let you catch Pokemon wherever you were.

Finally, one of Nintendo's oldest hit characters proved that it can still hang tough in the world of gaming - Donkey Kong.

His latest outing - Donkey Kong Bonanza picked up the Critics' Choice Award, one of the categories chosen by the expert panel.
