Newly promoted London City Lionesses have signed midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain in a world record deal.

The £1,400,000 fee makes the 28-year-old the most expensive women's footballer in history.

It is the third time the women's world record has been broken this summer.

In July, Olivia Smith became the first £1million signing in the women's game when she joined Arsenal from WSL rivals Liverpool.

Keep reading to find out more about Geyoro and some of the other big WSL summer transfers that have taken place.

An experienced player, Geyoro has been capped 103 times by France and scored 22 goals for her country.

She's played in two World Cups, two European Championships and the 2024 Olympics.

The fee paid by London City beats the previous record of £1.1m paid last month by Orlando Pride to sign Mexico winger Lizbeth Ovalle.

The newly promoted WSL team have certainly been looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the season, with sixteen new signings.

The London City Lionesses - not to be confused with the nickname of the England women's team - were promoted to the WSL after winning the Championship title earlier this year.

In July, Arsenal signed striker Olivia Smith from WSL rivals Liverpool in what was world-first.

The £1,000,000 fee made Smith the first £1million footballer in the women's game.

It beat the previous world record of around £900,000 set in January this year by Chelsea for defender Naomi Girma.

Smith said it was "a privilege and an honour" to sign for the north London club and that she was "excited to get started."

Smith had been one of Liverpool's standout players and scored seven times in 20 WSL appearances in her debut season.

Smith isn't alone in signing for Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

The north London club have also added Lionesses Chloe Kelly to their ranks on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Last month, Kelly signed for the Gunners permanently after a successful loan spell last season.

And she also had a pretty good summer too!

With a hop, skip and a kick, Kelly scored the winning penalty against Spain in the Euro 2025 final - helping England defend their title as European Champions.

Euro 2025 was also a special tournament for star striker Michelle Agyemang.

She was the youngest member of the Lionesses squad, as well as the only teenager, and became one of England's standout players.

The 19-year-old scored important late equalisers in the quarter-final and semi-final to help keep England's trophy hopes alive.

As a result, she picked up the Young Player of the Tournament award in Switzerland.

Agyemang, a lifelong Arsenal fan who joined the club's academy at the age of six, has returned to Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

Aston Villa have signed England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck from Barcelona on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old spent last season with the Spanish champions.

Before moving to Spain, Roebuck made 136 appearances for Manchester City.

She won seven major titles with the north-west club - the Women's Super League as well as the FA Cup and League Cup on three occasions.

Roebuck has eleven England caps and was part of the Lionesses squad that won the Euros in 2022.

Last season saw Chelsea complete the domestic treble - meaning they won all three of England's biggest trophies.

And it seems the west London side certainly want to keep their place at the top.

They have signed Australia defender Ellie Carpenter from French champions Lyon on a four-year contract.

She's seen as one of the best right-backs in the world and has a huge amount of experience, including 87 international caps, under her belt.

Carpenter played for Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor at Lyon and leaves after five years with the club, having won the Champions League with them in 2020 and 2022.
