Great Britain's men have won gold at the European gymnastics championship in the German city of Leipzig.

The team was made up of Olympic medallists Jake Jarman and Harry Hepworth, double European floor champion Luke Whitehouse plus two newcomers to the senior squad, Jonas Rushworth and Jamie Lewis.

They achieved a combined winning score of 247.528 points, finishing ahead of Switzerland, who took silver, and Italy, who clinched bronze.

It's the first time that Britain has achieved the top spot in the event since 2022.

Jake Jarman and Luke Whitehouse were the only two members of the team who had also been part of the quartet who last clinched gold for Gymnastics GB at the event three years ago.

Speaking to BBC Sport after their latest victory, Jake Jarman said he was really happy with the result.

"I'm incredibly proud of this team.

"It was a new team coming into this and I was a bit unsure how we'd get on together, but from day one it just seemed like the chemistry of the team came together so seamlessly," he explained.

19-year-old Jonas Rushworth, who was one of two gymnasts to make his senior debut, said it was a "privilege" and that he felt "blessed to be in this team".

"There's no better group of lads to be here with. The experience was immense and I'm just excited for the future," Rushworth added.

The team event also served as qualification for the men's all-around and apparatus finals.

In the women's team event, Great Britain finished in sixth place.

The competition continues on Wednesday with the mixed team final.
