Former US president Donald Trump says he is "safe and well" after a man with a gun was spotted on his golf course in Florida.

The Secret Service, which protects political leaders and their families in the United States, saw the gun poking through some bushes near where Mr Trump was playing golf.

They immediately rushed him to safety.

They fired at the suspect and tried to catch him, he drove off, but was later stopped by police and is now in custody.

It is the second apparent attempt on Mr Trump's life in two months. He was shot at and injured during an attack at a political event in July.

After it happened yesterday, Donald Trump said he was "safe and well" in an email to his supporters and said "nothing will slow me down".

Vice-president Kamala Harris, who is running against Donald Trump to be the next US president, said: "I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America."
