If you were going on a trip to space, what food would you make sure to take with you?

Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski's choice is pierogi - a traditional polish dumpling dish.

He has been working with a Polish business who have developed a special freeze-drying technique to allow him to take his favourite food on his mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

This got us wondering, what would your favourite food to take to space?

Most food taken to space has to be freeze dried to reduce its weight and ensure it lasts for longer.

Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski joined a special project to prepare what food would be taken on the next mission.

He said: "We worked for several weeks, and the company mastered this process... I can say that for the first time, we will be taking Polish pierogi into space,"

"I hope that the pierogi in space will be just as delicious as they are on Earth."

Over the years other astronauts have taken special food into space, and as the technology behind transporting food has improved they have had more say and choice into what to take.

Thomas Pesquet, a French astronaut, was even able to celebrate his birthday in space with classic French macaroons during his six-month Proxima mission in 2017.

So, if you were about to go on a mission into space, what would you want to take with you?
