An extraordinary meeting has taken place between the President of the USA, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine.

The two world leaders were having an important meeting in front of news cameras at the US president's home, the White House in Washington DC on Friday.

The meeting was about Ukraine's war with Russia and a deal put forward by the United States to try and achieve peace.

What started with smiles and friendly handshakes soon turned into a big row.

During the meeting, US Vice-President JD Vance said the "path to peace" is through diplomacy.

"What kind of diplomacy are you speaking about?" Mr Zelensky asked, explaining that Ukraine had faced Russian aggression for years, long before Russia's invasion in 2022.

Mr Vance said Mr Zelensky was being "disrespectful" before he added, "You should be thanking the president," referring to US support during the war.

President Trump then warned, "You're either going to make a deal or we're out."

It's very unusual for world leaders to disagree like this in public, and the two men didn't reach any agreement.

A press conference - where the leaders were expected to answer questions from the media - was cancelled, and President Zelensky was told to leave the White House early.

Donald Trump wrote on social media shortly after the argument that Mr Zelensky could come back when he's "ready for peace".

Speaking on American news network Fox, President Zelensky said that the row was "bad for both sides".

On social media, he thanked Mr Trump, American politicians, and the American people for their support and said Ukraine needs a just and lasting peace.

A spokesperson for the UK's Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer - who met with Donald Trump this week - said the PM had spoken to both Mr Trump and Mr Zelensky and that he still has "unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace".

Meanwhile the French President Emmanuel Macron, who also met with Donald Trump this week, said: "There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a victim: Ukraine. We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago - and to keep doing so".

American senator, Lindsey Graham, a member of Trump's Republican party said: "I've never been more proud of President Trump for showing the American people -and the world - you don't trifle with this man.

"He wanted to get a ceasefire. He wants to end the war and Zelensky felt like he needed to bait Trump in the Oval Office."

Mr Zelensky and Mr Trump's conversation led to some disagreements

The BBC's International Editor, Jeremy Bowen says that the future for Ukraine is unclear after the argument between the two world leaders.

"If Trump follows the breakdown of talks with a freeze on military aid, Ukraine will fight on. The questions are how effectively, and for how long," he said.
