Last week was a busy one for the king hosting US President Donald Trump.

But he also had another very important person to meet - 116-year-old Ethel Caterham, the world's oldest person.

The record breaker celebrated her birthday in August quietly with just her family.

However, Ethel later revealed she wouldn't have minded having a royal visitor like the King there too, so the monarch decided to pop in and visit her a few weeks later.

Who is Ethel Caterham?

Ethel Caterham was born on August 21 in 1909, in Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire.

This was five years before the start of the First World War.

She is the last surviving subject of King Edward VII, who died in May 1910.

One of her sisters, Gladys, also lived to be very old - before she passed away at 104.

The title of the oldest person ever is held by French woman Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122 years 164 days, according to Guinness World Records.

King Charles travelled to care home in Surrey where Ethel lives and she used the opportunity to share some of her memories of watching him grow up in the public eye.

The King listened as she told him how she had watched him being named Prince of Wales when he was 21: "I remember when your mother crowned you in Caernarfon Castle."

This wasn't Mrs Caterham first time meeting royalty - she also remembered attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace in the 1960s.

Since she turned 100 Ethel has received 17 cards from members of the Royal Family, with some from Queen Elizabeth II and others from King Charles and Queen Camilla.

She also received a signed letter from the King congratulating her on her 116th birthday and on becoming the world's oldest living person.
