The Big Question: Why is blood red?

Blood is an absolutely essential part of our bodies.

It supplies all of the organs and tissues in the body with what they need to function and a network of arteries, veins and capillaries keeps blood circulating around the body.

But have you ever wondered why it is red? Well, this is the question that nine-year-old Angel sent in to us, so we went to see Professor Aneez Esmail at the University of Manchester to find out the answer.
