How is a new Pope chosen?

The death of Pope Francis means that 1.4 billion followers around the world are waiting to see who the next leader of the Roman Catholic Church will be.

The new Pope will be selected by senior priests, called cardinals, who will vote in a top secret process called a conclave.

And tradition means that everyone watching and waiting for a decision, will be keeping an eye out for some special smoke.
