Gavin Rees of Wales took the vacant European lightweight title with a unanimous points win over unbeaten Irishman Andrew Murray on Saturday.
Despite conceding a height advantage, the former WBA world light-welterweight champion began strongly at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.
Rees, 31, gained a comfortable lead before tiring dramatically in the second half of the fight.
But he still won easily, the judges scoring it 115-112, 115-112, 116-112.
