Charlie Flynn to make professional boxing debut in December

Commonwealth Games boxing champion Charlie Flynn is to turn professional.

The lightweight gold medallist's first fight will be a four-rounder at Glasgow's Thistle Hotel on 14 December.

He will be coached by Peter Harrison and managed by Alex Morrison, with Eddie Hearn as his promoter.

"I've been itching to turn pro for years," he told BBC Scotland. "I've beaten the best at amateur and now it's time to bring the medals back to Scotland at professional level."

Flynn's opponent has yet to be named.

"It is a different world, a different kind of boxing," he stressed.

"It's all about hard punching, high fitness and having 12 hard rounds to overcome any style inside that ring."

Flynn was aware of the role of money in the professional boxing business.

"It is a big of a maze, the pro game," he suggested. "It's a bit like jumping into a lawnmower.

"It's a dodgy business if you don't know what you are doing.

"If you don't know what you are doing, you're just going to get chopped up."

Flynn earned the nickname The Mailman for his work as a postman while an amateur and he has no intention of ditching the moniker.

"The Mailman will live on," he promised. "I'm keeping the name - it's just catchy.

"I worked on the mail and he always delivers, so why not?"
