Glasgow 2014: England's Geva Mentor hails squad's preparations

England netball star Geva Mentor says the squad for this month's Commonwealth Games is better prepared than ever to challenge for medals.

Glasgow 2014 will be Mentor's fourth Games, with the experienced 29-year-old making her international debut in 2001.

Mentor won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

"We're still searching for consistency but I'd like to think this is the best prepared England team I've been around," she told BBC Radio Solent.

England will be without regular captain Pamela Cookey through injury but Mentor is confident that the squad, which was announced on 1 July, has the depth required to be successful.

"It was unfortunate to lose Pamela but the depth we've managed to create in England with the youngsters we have is exciting," she said.

"I think that will also give us a bit of an unknown tag going into the tournament."

Mentor, who recently won the ANZ Championships in Australia with her club Melbourne Vixens, said that cutting out errors will be key to her side's success in Scotland.

"It's a fantastic achievement to be picked," she said.

"We've been improving as a team over the years that I've been involved but we need to cut down our errors.

"I'm fed up with having a bronze: now I want a different colour.

"We have been talking the talk for many years but now I'd like to think this is the year we can walk the walk and show the world what England are all about."
