Glasgow 2014: Jade Clarke to lead England netball squad

New skipper Jade Clarke has competed at the past two Commonwealth Games

England have named a 12-strong squad for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Experienced mid-courter Jade Clarke of New Zealand's Canterbury Tactix is captain, with regular skipper Pamela Cookey sidelined through injury.

Manchester Thunder shooter Helen Housby wins a call-up after a strong end to the domestic season, while Melbourne Vixens' Geva Mentor returns to the squad for this summer's Games.

Seven of the party have previous Commonwealth Games experience.

"We are delighted to have chosen a real mix of experienced heads and young faces for our Commonwealth Games squad," said head coach Anna Mayes.

"This is an incredibly important competition for us as it is the only chance our squad gets to compete at a multi-sports event."

Clarke was part of the squad that won bronze in 2006 and 2010 and told BBC Sport: "I've never been part of an England team that's been so well prepared.

"What's been good for me is to see the expectations change. We're not happy to get a bronze medal any more.

"We can really challenge the top teams and it's going to be so exciting at these Games."

England face Australia, Wales, South Africa, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago in Pool B.

The Commonwealth Games begin on Wednesday, 23 July.
