Craig Kieswetter: Somerset wicketkeeper out for six weeks
- Published
Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter has been ruled out for up to six weeks after fracturing his right thumb.
He broke it keeping in Somerset's Championship draw with Warwickshire.
The injury could wreck the 25-year-old's chances of a recall to England's one-day squad for next month's internationals against New Zealand.
Somerset team-mate Jos Buttler was handed the gloves over the winter after England decided to drop Kieswetter because of his poor batting form.
Kieswetter has scored 196 runs and taken 14 catches in three Championship Division One matches this season.
"Obviously this is very disappointing for us at this stage of the campaign and it is also very disappointing for Craig," said Somerset director of cricket Dave Nosworthy.
"This was a freak accident and with him in such good form and in a good frame of mind with the bat and gloves, it has come at a bad time.
"However, he goes about things in a very professional way and with a good rehabilitation programme already planned we will have him back as soon as possible."
