Jos Buttler: Somerset aware of England's wicketkeeper dilemma

Somerset say they will consider England's needs when deciding whether Craig Kieswetter or Jos Buttler will keep wicket for them this summer.

Kieswetter has been first-choice for the county, but team-mate Buttler took the gloves for England's one-day and Twenty20 internationals in New Zealand.

"They're both quality cricketers," said director of cricket Dave Nosworthy.

"We haven't had communication from England, but when the time does arrive we'll be open to discussion."

Kieswetter has made 46 one-day international appearances for England - all but three as wicketkeeper - but was dropped for the tour to New Zealand after failing to impress with the bat in India last month.

The 25-year-old was out for a duck on his last innings in Ranchi and was replaced by Buttler for the following game at Mohali.

Buttler, 22, kept his place in the squad for New Zealand and impressed with 54 off 30 balls in England's second T20 match against the Kiwis last week but the selectors would like him to gain more experience behind the stumps at domestic level.

Limited overs coach Ashley Giles plans to talk to Nosworthy regarding the situation, saying: "I can't tell Somerset what to do, but it's pretty obvious that Jos needs to keep wicket now."

Nosworthy, who takes over at Taunton in March after being appointed to succeed Brian Rose, told BBC Somerset: "The team comes first - that's always the priority.

"However, we need to cater for the players' needs to give them an opportunity to play at the next level.

"I've communicated with the two players myself and we'll work it through. It's not a unique situation for me and it will be a matter of managing it to find a solution."
