Brendon McCullum hit a superb 224 as New Zealand took control of the first Test against India with a first-innings total of 503.
The 32-year-old hit 29 fours and five sixes to overtake Nathan Astle and become New Zealand's fourth-highest Test run scorer with 4,904.
Ishant Sharma was the pick of India's beleaguered attack, taking six wickets, including McCullum.
The tourists recovered from 10-3 to close day two on 130-4.
