Double Olympic champion Laura Trott finished fourth on her debut with the Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team at the GP Dottignies in Belgium.
Trott, 20, won two golds in the velodrome at London 2012, and made a bold start with her new team on the road as part of a 13-rider breakaway.
She was narrowly beaten to third place by Dutch rider Sanne van Paassen.
Dani King, Trott's team-mate in Britain's gold-medal winning Olympic pursuit team, finished 12th.
The race took place over four 28.4km laps, with Vera Koedooder of Sengers Ladies taking first place ahead of Dutch compatriot Iris Slappendel of Rabobank-Liv/Giant.
Trott said on Twitter:, external "Not going to lie, found that pretty hard and didn't expect to be in a break all day, just wanted to do a good job for the team! Fourth isn't too bad."
The new Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team is backed by Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, and receives funding from Wiggins's Wiggo Foundation.
