Omega-PharmaQuick rider Mark Cavendish has won his first stage since the Tour de France

Mark Cavendish gained his first win since an injury during the Tour de France with a sprint victory on stage one of the Tour de Poitou-Charentes.

The Omega-PharmaQuick Step rider, 29, won the 192.4km stage through La Ronde in France ahead of Ag2r's Maxim Daniel.

It was the Briton's 10th victory of the season as he continued his preparations for next month's Tour of Britain.

"It's a nice feeling to win again, especially after such a well executed sprint," Cavendish said.

"In the next few days we'll see if we can try again and continue this winning mood."

Cavendish required surgery after he dislocated his shoulder and suffered ligament damage on the first stage of the Tour de France in Yorkshire in July.
