Marchant and Trott dominate British Track Championships

Katy Marchant completed a breakthrough GB track cycling championships with two titles on the final day, to take her tally to four in Manchester.

The former heptathlete won individual sprint and keirin golds on Friday and Saturday respectively, before 500m time-trial and team-sprint victories.

Double Olympic champion Laura Trott finished with a hat-trick of gold medals by winning the points race.

Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes and Matthew Crampton won the men's team sprint.

The men's team pursuit final saw '100% ME' riders Germain Burton, Jake Kelly, Mark Stewart and Oliver Wood defeat the 'Scotland Development' line-up.

Stewart then returned for the final event of the competition - the men's 15km scratch race where he secured another victory.

Marchant combined with former European champion Jessica Varnish to defeat Victoria Williamson and Shanaze Reade in the team-sprint final.

Reade - a three-time BMX World champion and two-time World track cycling gold medallist - was competing in her first event on the track since 2011.

"Hopefully this can be a breakthrough because I've been in great form this year," Marchant told BBC Sport.

"It's going to be a real battle for those team-sprint places come the Olympics, but I'll do everything I can to prove I deserve to be there."

Trott (100 points) beat Katie Archibald (88 points) into second place for the third time at the Championships - following victories in the individual pursuit and scratch events.

"These results have given me a massive amount of confidence," Trott told BBC Sport.

"I just feel really good in myself and in control, which is really important ahead of such a big year with the Worlds and Olympics."

The next major event for of the elite British cyclists will be the European Championships, 14-18 October, in Switzerland.
