Swansea City are in talks with Liverpool over the possible transfer of defender Daniel Ayala.

Liverpool accepted Hull's bid for Ayala on Saturday, paving the way for the 20-year-old to discuss personal terms with the Championship club.

But Swansea are planning their own bid for the Spaniard, who has made four appearances for Liverpool since making his debut at White Hart Lane in 2009.

Ayala impressed during a 12-game loan spell at Hull last season.

He ended the season on loan at Derby County, external, and played in the 2-1 home win over Swansea in March.

Liverpool signed Ayala from Seville in 2007 but the Spain Under-21 international has failed to establish himself in the first team at Anfield.

Swansea are keen to increase their defensive options as they prepare for their debut season in the Premier League.

The Swans have already signed Stephen Caulker on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, but doubts over Garry Monk's fitness have prompted manager Brendan Rodgers to seek another centre-back.
