Southport manager Liam Watson says he is confident the club can extend Godfrey Poku's loan deal from Luton.

Poku moved to Haig Avenue in August, but the deal ends on 7 January.

Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside, external: "I'm more than optimistic that loan deal will be extended, but not until after the Luton game (on 21 January).

"I'd say it's 90%. I've already spoken to Gary Brabin (Luton manager) and he's not going to make a decision until after we play the Luton game."

He added: "I would have thought Gary would help us out because that's the way he is. We do need fresh faces now."

The clash with the Hatters later this month is Southport's next fixture, but Poku would miss the game through suspension anyway after accumulating 10 bookings.
