Fleetwood 2-2 Southport

Richard Brodie's late equaliser against Southport earned 10-man Fleetwood a point to extend their unbeaten Blue Square Bet Premier run to 10 games.

Tony Gray put the visitors ahead when he headed in Shaun Whalley's free-kick but Andy Mangan's penalty levelled it after Earl Davis fouled Magno Vieira.

Gray's tap-in restored Southport's lead before Fleetwood's Jamie McGuire was sent off for two bookable offences.

Brodie forced a draw when he collected Shaun Beeley's pass to fire home.

Southport manager Liam Watson thinks his side will benefit from their performance against second-placed Fleetwood when the two sides meet again at Haig Avenue on New Year's Day.

"We know it's going to be a really tough day," said Watson. "But the nice thing is we've managed to secure our first point at Highbury in three years, not many teams will do that this season. The lads have got to take that on board.

"We had spells where we should have put ourselves out of the equation, Tony Gray had a great chance just before half time, in between his goals and it would have given us a 3-1 cushion.

"They threw the kitchen sink at us in the second half and we have defended well but they've got a break in the 87th minute, which we have done many times ourselves this season."
