Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan pledges £25m for new players

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan says the Bluebirds could spend up to £25m in preparation for their promotion to the Premier League.

A 0-0 draw with Charlton on Tuesday returned Cardiff to the top flight after a 51-year absence.

"We need to strategise well and we'd like to spend some money - maybe 20 to 25 million," said Tan.

"Others have spent a big amount of money and don't do well, so we will try to spend smartly."

The Bluebirds can now win the Championship title if they beat struggling Burnley on Saturday.

But Cardiff manager Malky Mackay, who has secured promotion in his second season in charge, was already looking ahead to the task of surviving in the Premier League.

"It's a huge challenge," he said. "We are going into one of the best leagues in the world.

"We are going to plan properly. That has started already and we will now put that in action. We will make sure the structure we have put in place keeps striding forward because change is constant.

"We have been doing that for two years, changing and adapting, and we will continue doing that to make sure we give ourselves the best chance in the Premier League.

"We have been competitive in this league, every team we have played in the last 20 months we have been competitive against. That will not change in the Premier League."
