Chesterfield have signed goalkeeper Aaron Chapman on a one-year contract from Belper Town of the Northern Premier League Division One South.

The 6ft 8ins 22-year-old has previously played for Goole and Parkgate.

"We first spotted him two years ago playing in the Sheffield Sunday league.

"He went off the radar and turned up at Belper so we got him in training with us for a few weeks and he impressed," Spireites chief executive Chris Turner told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Mark Crossley was monitoring him in 2011 and when we were about to sign him he went off to train with Norwich City.

"We actually thought he must have signed there until we saw him at Belper, but we're delighted to finally get him in."

Chesterfield have also brought in goalkeeping coach Eric Nixon, who most recently worked at Macclesfield Town.

He is manager Paul Cook's second addition to the coaching staff after former Accrington Stanley boss Leam Richardson joined as his new assistant.
